BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Beaufort Police are investigating two weekend shootings, one of them deadly at the Elks Lodge on Church Street.
Police were called to the scene just after midnight for a multiple shots fired call.
When officers arrived, they found blood, shell casings and several vehicles leaving the area. Steven Brown, 40, from Beaufort was killed and a 26-year-old male from Sheldon and a 23-year-old from Dale were injured.
The Elks Lodge is located around the corner from a school and behind a police office in the area that residents describe as fairly quiet.
WTOC spoke with one resident Monday who said the shooting has her on edge because these kinds of incidents are not common around here.
"I'm afraid. I have no idea what's going on. I came out on Saturday right after the incident happened, thinking I was going to see some crime tape, some investigation, or to even hear that someone got caught, so I'm a little worried. I'm a little bothered," said Aujenne Johnson, resident.
Johnson described the victim as a loving, community-oriented man, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"To my understanding, he was an innocent bystander who was just trying to diffuse a situation and got caught in the crossfire. I'm just completely bothered. I'm hoping we get justice, we need justice, his family needs justice, and the community needs justice," said Johnson.
WTOC has reached out to the Beaufort Police Department, however at this time they say there are not any updates. The investigation is still active and there is not a suspect in custody.
Officials have yet to release the identity of the victim to the public
Anyone with information is urged to call Beaufort Police.
