CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - It's a small token of comfort, but it can have a big, positive impact on children going through a tough time.
Monday, hundreds of stuffed teddy bears were carried into the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police headquarters. A donation from the Coastal Empire Credit Union Chapter.
The donors say providing police officers with these stuffed animals helps them make a connection with children in a variety of bad situations.
"This is something we've done a few times over the years. And it gives them the opportunity to connect with a small child, especially in a time of trouble or when the child is upset for any reason," said Coastal Empire Credit Union Chapter President Don Hill.
"As Mr. Hill said, in a time of need, when these children are hurting, this might be the bear that makes the difference in their lives. This might be the one calming factor that helps them hold it all together," said Maj. Larry Branson, SCMPD.
The hundreds of bears will be evenly distributed among all of the city's precincts.
