CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - A lawsuit filed last week alleges Kinder Morgan is to blame for a December gasoline spill on a South Carolina farm.
The company, planning to run a pipeline through Richmond Hill and Brunswick, is under fire for its "reckless" attempt to maintain the pipeline, resulting in the nearly 400,000-gallon spill.
It happened at a farm in Anderson County, also the proposed starting point for the Palmetto Pipeline.
The suit claims the spill permanently damaged the property.
Kinder Morgan officials released a statement Monday, here is an excerpt:
"Contrary to many of the exaggerated, misleading and irrelevant descriptions of incidents included in the plaintiffs' complaint, Kinder Morgan is committed to operational excellence... and invests millions of dollars each year on integrity management and maintenance programs to operate our assets safely."
