BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) - If you're looking for work, there could be good news in Statesboro.
A new factory with high-tech jobs announced Monday morning they'll build a new plant in Statesboro/Bulloch County.
Not even Monday's rainy weather could dampen spirits around town with the word of 100 new jobs, a new industry, and it could be just the beginning.
The Gateway Industrial Park will get a new tenant when Aspen Aerogels builds a $70 million plant here. It comes after nearly a year of work.
"This deal took 11 months. The company visited Statesboro for the first time last December and visited us about half a dozen times in the meantime," said Director of Economic Development Benjy Thompson.
The company will build here, near Great Dane, and makes specific insulation for refineries, petroleum plants and other uses. Thompson says adding jobs from several small to medium plants helps broaden and stabilize a local economy.
"That brings a diversity to a community. You're able to have different types of jobs. You can attract people with different skills to fill those jobs," said Thompson.
Thompson says the company comes here with plans to expand already.
No word on when and how they'll open the hiring. We'll pass that along as soon as it comes.
