CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Wednesday a former contender for Savannah City Council is throwing his support behind another candidate.
Joe Steffen is giving his endorsement to Alicia Blakely for the Alderman At-Large Post 2 race.
They both were on the ballot for that seat in last week's election and they say they agreed if either of them lost, they'd back the other.
Steffen made the announcement with Blakely at his side at a news conference in front of City Hall Wednesday morning.
"Alicia represents change and not the status quo. Her opponent in this race is tied very deeply to the status quo and in fact ran on a ticket with every single sitting member of city council. So I think the people of this city have indicated that they want to see a change in certain members of council, so I support Alicia for those three reasons," said Steffen.
Blakely is in a runoff with opponent Brian Foster for the seat on Dec. 1st.
