FORT STEWART (WTOC) - On this Veterans Day, the Headquarters Element of the 3rd Infantry Division returned to Fort Stewart lead by Commanding General, Maj. Gen. James Rainey who took command of the division while deployed in Afghanistan.
Rainey and Command Sergeant Major Christopher Gilpin uncased the division's colors signaling the end of the division's headquarters in Afghanistan.
Waiting family members and friends were over joyed as their soldiers returned.
"I'm proud of my family for holding up during this deployment and doing such a great job. Especially my wife, who took care of the kids in good times and in tough times as I was gone so my hats off really to all the families that really had the tough mission as we were deployed," said Col. Peter Sicoli, 3rd ID.
Wednesday, about 20 soldiers were reunited with their families. Tuesday, over 100 soldiers returned to Fort Stewart after spending a year in Afghanistan.
