TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Tybee Teen Cuisine hosted its first Captain's Cruise Dinner at the Old School Cafeteria.
Each course on the four-course menu was prepared by the 13 teens enrolled in the free program.
The 10-week program allows the teens to learn culinary skills and then prepare meals for their parents and other lucky folks to enjoy.
"Teen Cuisine has come about over the last five years and we've worked really hard to show our teens the great things that can come from learning how to cook. Not just life skills, but actually how to work in the kitchen and so tonight they're getting to showcase those skills," said Tybee YMCA and Recreation Executive Director Haley Hill.
The program was started about five years ago between Hill and the late Kevin Carpenter, the co-owner and chef of Sundae Café and 80's Gastro Pub.
After Carpenter passed away, his business partner, A.J. Baker, stepped in to work with Hill and ensure the program, along with Kevin's legacy, carried on.
