CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The Chatham County Sheriff's Office is making several changes.
Recommendations from consultants who were contracted back in May are expected to be in, either in late December or early January of 2016. But the sheriff's office announced Thursday it is not waiting that long to make changes.
The sheriff's office says it is conducting a survey asking all staff how they would like to be able to report "whistle blower" incidents, it's implementing additional training for employees including but not limited to the Use of Force and a committee has been formed to review all Use of Force incidents.
A new special watch area is also being developed for individuals who may have the desire to hurt themselves.
Since Jan. 1st of this year, the sheriff's office say there have been 28 officers released, 18 retirements and 46 officers have taken other employment.
They have hired 66 officers this year, as well.
Adding a sign-on bonus and reducing the minimum age for employment will help increase the number of eligible applicants.
