Fort Stewart facility dedicated to Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Gallagher

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

A facility dedication was held Monday at Fort Stewart in memory of Command Sergeant Major Robert Gallagher.

Command Sgt. Maj. Gallagher passed away last year. His service includes combat experience spanning three decades.

"To describe him as a soldier, the only word I can come up with is the Ultimate Soldier. A leader, and that's what Bob was,” said Col. (Ret.) Danny McKnight.

“It's the impact he had on other people's lives. It showed what a true human and what a true leader he was,” said Patrick Gallagher, son.

Gallagher also served as a platoon sergeant in the battle made famous by the film Black Hawk Down. And despite being injured, he also served as the Command Sergeant Major of 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
