St.Joseph's/Candler nurse arrested for selling prescription medication

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A registered nurse employed at St. Joseph's/Candler is in custody for selling prescription medication following an undercover operation by the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team.

Early Monday afternoon, CNT arrested 54-year-old James Elliott Cooke of Savannah. Cooke was arrested on several felony charges including Sale of a Controlled Substance.

Agents also seized a large sum of various prescription medication, two firearms, items of evidentiary value, more than $3,300 and one vehicle at Cooke's apartment in Colonial Village at Marsh Cove, located in the 11000 block of White Bluff Road.

CNT began investigating Cooke earlier this month following information that Cooke was selling prescription medications. During the operation, agents made several purchases of various prescription medication from Cooke.

None of the purchases occurred on hospital property. St. Joseph's/Candler Human Resources Department has assisted throughout the investigation process.

According to Scott Larson, with St. Joseph's/Candler media relations department, Cooke is no longer employed with the hospital.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
