Some 700 Chatham middle school students are getting out of their rooms, learning a lot about aviation. The 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia National Guard and Savannah State University's ROTC program hosted an open house at Travis Field today.
Military men and women from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard showed off their aircraft and gear, hoping to interest some of the students in a career in the sky.
"It brings a lot of the application of math and science home to them, and shows them how they can be applied in the real world of aviation, and hopefully get them into careers in aviation either in the military or civilian world," said ROTC commanding officer Capt. Leonard Jones.
Tomorrow, Chatham high school students visit the 165th.
