Red Cross volunteers are the people who really make a difference when times are tough and we need help. So today the coastal district of the American Red Cross honored their volunteers at the Marriot Riverfront.
In particular, Ted and Shirley Druhot of Beaufort. They've helped collect thousands of pints of blood over the past ten years.
They also recognized Candler County for collecting a record amount of blood this year.
It's these kinds of volunteer efforts that keep the Red Cross running. "For the most part, we rely on the efforts of all of our volunteers to help us accomplish our mission and make the American Red Cross what it is," said Dean Smith, district manager for blood services. "Without them we wouldn't even be able to operate."
Across our area, nearly 400 volunteers collected more than 30,000 pints of blood last year.
