Farewell Retreat Ceremony held at Fort Stewart

FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Thursday night continued Marne Week celebrations at Fort Stewart with a Deputy Commanding General Welcome and Farewell Retreat Ceremony.

Marne Week is an athletic and military competition for soldiers across Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.

Thursday night, goodbyes were said to Brigadier General James Blackburn, Deputy Commanding General and hellos to Brigadier Generals Timothy McAteer and Douglas Crissman.

"When it comes down to it, it's all about community. Whether it's about the community you live in, the community you join or the community you fight for. It's really wonderful to be a part of this community and difficult at the same time to say goodbye. We have strong roots here in the Coastal Georgia Empire and we can't wait to return. Thank you all so much,” said Brig. Gen. James Blackburn, Jr.

Brigadier General Blackburn and his family are now heading to Texas.

Marne Week activities finish Friday morning with a Division Change of Responsibility, welcoming Command Sergeant Major Walter Tagalicud and bid farewell to Command Sergeant Major Christopher Gilpin.
