Police investigating suspicious death in Glastonbury

GLASTONBURY, CT (WFSB) -

State Police are investigating a suspicious death at a home on Oak Street in Glastonbury.

Major Crimes Detectives were on the scene of a private residence located at 148 Oak Street and have been there since 10:30 a.m.

Glastonbury police told Eyewitness News that police were doing a welfare check at the home and that's when the body of an older male was found dead.

"There's no concern. This appears to be an isolated incident. It's contained to the house," said Captain Dennis Woessner of the Glastonbury Police Department.

Police are still working to try and figure out exactly what happened to the man inside of the home.

"At about 10:30 this morning, the Glastonbury Police Department received a call from a relative asking us to check on the well being of a resident," Woessner said.

Sources told Eyewitness News that the victim had a large gash on his head and the home was in disarray.

"We went inside the residence and found a deceased older male inside under suspicious circumstances," Woessner said.

Neighbors told Eyewitness news that they were shocked to see so many police officers in the quiet portion of Glastonbury.

Police said at this point it is too early to tell if the man was a victim of a robbery or if his death was an accident.

"At this point it could have been a medical, at this point we don't know and that's why we're doing everything cautiously and step by step," Woessner said.

The male's body has been taken to the medical examiner's officer to determine the cause of death. Police have not released the man's identity at this point.
