STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Hospitals volunteers in Statesboro teamed with a local charity to help make Thanksgiving better for needy families.
The East Georgia Regional Medical Center Auxiliary donated groceries for 100 families to cook up their own holiday meal. The food went to the Christian Social Ministries program for the Ogeechee River Baptist Association of churches and they'll distribute their food bank. Both groups say the need is more than people might think.
"If you look at the numbers of people served, you know the need is growing all the time and it's something that shouldn't be ignored," said John Long, Christian Social Ministries.
The hospital auxiliary has been donating meals for the past seven years.
