The brand new Jekyll Island Skating Village will open to the public Wednesday Nov. 25th - Jan 10th. The $30,000 outdoor skating rink at the island park will not use actual ice, considering temperatures can still hit 70 degrees between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. Instead, it will use dense sheets of plastic that are slick enough for ice skating. The new attraction will let visitors look at the ocean while gliding on ice skates
The skating rink will have a barrier fence around the rink, a carpeted area for getting groups on and off the surface, bleachers and a skating chalet where skates can be rented and snacks bought. Seasoned skaters who have their own ice skates can use those with no worry about damaging the surface or their skates.
