Thanksgiving dinner held for the homeless

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A free Thanksgiving dinner handed out to the homeless in Savannah.

Folks gathered at Savannah's International Free and Accepted Modern Masons and Order of the Eastern Star on Drayton Street Wednesday, where they handed out turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and the works.

Volunteers say it's important to make sure everyone has a nice, warm meal this holiday.

"We know what's around us. We know how the economy is and we know that there are a lot of people in need and we, as being a nonprofit, want to give something back to the community," said Savannah District City Council of International Free and Accepted Masons President Gloria McGowan.

Wednesday's goal was to serve up to 200 people.
