SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Bringing military family members into the fold at the Wilmington Island Club.
The inaugural Stars and Stripes Golf Tournament Monday raised money for "Folds of Honor", an organization that provides education scholarships to the children and spouses of soldiers killed or severely wounded in combat.
The Wilmington Island Club's Patrick Richardson is one of many PGA professionals around the country helping host one of these events, and the first one in Savannah was even more successful than anticipated.
"We started off with a goal of five to seven thousand, we're probably close to 12, 13 thousand dollars. So it's pretty good for a first time out, we hope to do more and we'll be ready for next year," said Dave Simmons, Stars and Stripes Golf Tournament organizer.
The St. Andrew's Honors Choir started the day's activities by singing the national anthem.
