Increased security at polls for Tuesday's run-off elections

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Polls wills open at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning for Savannah’s run-off election.

Voters will decide on the seats for Alderman At-Large Post 2, the District 2 Alderman and the mayor. No single candidate in those races gained the simple majority needed to win on Nov. 3rd.

On that Election Day, there were a number of reports of people illegally campaigning within 150 feet of some polling places.

The Board of Elections is hoping to avoid those issues this time around.

"There will be an increase in security. We've met with the police chief, and he's agreed to provide more patrols at all of the precinct locations. And the sheriff's department is going to be providing patrols as well,” said Chatham County Board of Elections Chairman Tom Mahoney.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
