STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Members of the Statesboro Bulloch Chamber of Commerce came together for their annual meeting to celebrate what they say is a community that's rebounded from the economic woes that hit nationwide a few years ago.
Outgoing Chairman Ashley Ellis credits some of the resiliency to the balance of small local businesses and big-box national chains.
"Our community recognizes the importance of that small town atmosphere, that small town touch. But I do think we are a regional hub, not only for retail but also for healthcare," said Ellis.
She also credits the presence of a university that brings people and programs to town and helps attract more, however.
"We're being very strategic about how we grow and protect that small town feel that we've all come to love," said Ellis.
The chamber also recognized hotel owner Doug Lambert as its Business Leader of the Year.
They hope they can celebrate more businesses and more jobs again at the meeting next year.
