LYONS, GA (WTOC) - Lyons Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations consider the death of Marie Warnock a homicide.
Someone found Warnock Tuesday night lying by her car outside Chatters Restaurant. Police tell us she suffered head injuries but are not releasing the cause of death.
They're questioning a man who ran from officers Wednesday morning, but have not connected him to the crime.
"I had an officer that came into contact with him this morning, he fled on foot. We did eventually arrest him for fleeing, and he is in jail, charged with obstruction by fleeing at this time," said Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker.
Warnock served First Baptist Church Vidalia as its secretary for 43 years.
The pastor said that he and his wife left a Christmas party before someone found Warnock dead outside a Lyons restaurant.
Her death leaves everyone in shock.
"Marie had a ministry here. She didn't have a job here. She never talked to serve a check. She would tell you she was called by God here and that she would serve the Lord here," said Rev. Bucky Kennedy.
"Anybody that has any information that may happen to be in front of Chatter or in the area here in Lyons on Tuesday evening around 8 o'clock that may have seen something that has not come forward yet to please call the police department," said Chief Walker.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
