Court Appearance for Student Charged with Starting Knife Fight

The teenager who started a knife fight at McCracken Middle School appeared in court today. They're charging him as a juvenile for assault and battery with intent to kill.

He brought two knives to the school Wednesday and attacked three other students. They're holding him in the youth detention center in Columbia until his next hearing in ten days.

Police say he may have told other students about his plans.

"If we would have known ahead of time that he made statements to anyone, we could have dealt with him then rather than it going this far," said Chief John Brown of the Bluffton Police Department.

The three other students involved in the fight are still waiting for court dates. The one who picked up the knife after the fight is on house arrest.
