SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Need groceries but don't want to go to the store?
A new grocery delivery service called Shipt launched Thursday, and is available to anyone in Tybee, Savannah, and some surrounding areas of Chatham County.
Grocery delivery services are common in big cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas - but now you can add Savannah to the list!
"We had a lot of feedback on Savannah, and we are a southern startup so it kind of made sense," said Shipt Community Manager Anne Adams.
Yes, so many people in Savannah and Tybee wanted this service, it's now here.
"It's an app based on-demand grocery delivery service. It is membership based so customers can buy yearly or monthly memberships," said Adams.
Just sign up, then order groceries on from your smartphone or laptop. A shopper gets the order, picks up your items at Publix, and delivers them right to your door.
While this service is for everyone, it could be invaluable for a lot of folks.
"I think it's a really good option for people who can't get out as well as others can," said Courtney Hester, Shipt member.
The launch of Shipt in Savannah is also creating jobs as they hire shoppers.
"Typically, depending on the size of the market, we are anywhere from 100 to 300 shoppers. So, we're still growing," said Adams.
"This could be good for some college students who need a little extra income or the ones who are retiring who still want to have a little money on the side too," said Hester.
So now, if you can't grocery shop or don't want to - there's an app for that!
