This is uncharted territory for me. I've spent the past 26 years of my broadcast career in the background, behind the camera setting the tone and leading the direction of newsrooms, but now as Vice President and General Manager of WTOC, I will appear on camera every week with the intent of sparking a discussion, and hopefully, helping you to consider something new.
I'm no stranger to our community, having called it home for the past 16 years. I have roots here and they're only getting stronger. I met my wife in Savannah and we're raising our daughter to love this area as much as we do.
That being said, there are also challenges that go along with living here. I understand that, and as part of this community I share many of the same concerns that you do. I also understand the standard of excellence set forth by those who made WTOC, THE Big Red 11.
I will honor those efforts, but also keep us focused solely on the future. I would like to take a moment to thank Doug Weathers and Bill Cathcart for bringing me to WTOC in the first place and providing me with tremendous support and guidance in the years since. I would not be standing in front of you now were it not for those two men.
And I would like to thank you for all of your support of WTOC, and for making us your long standing number one choice for news, information and programming, and for your belief in our mission as journalists and our mission as a local television station to support and grow local businesses.
That's our mission. Your mission is to help us by offering up feedback, opinions and suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you.
