Suspect in multi-state robbery spree arrested

BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

A man is behind bars after a string of department store robberies in November.

Police in Glynn County, GA released surveillance photos of the suspect following a snatch and grab robbery at the Belk in the Glynn Place Mall in Brunswick. Police said he stole four diamond rings valued at $10,000 in the Nov. 20th robbery. He was later seen leaving a Belk in Waynesville, NC in a stolen 1993 red GMC Sierra. That truck was spotted by officers in Osceola County, FL on Nov. 30th. The driver, 41-year-old Thomas Powers of North Carolina was arrested.

Powers has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching for the incident in Brunswick, GA. More charges are expected. Investigators think Powers is responsible for similar robberies in the southeast:

  • 11/28 Kohl's, Warner Robins, GA
  • 11/30 Kmart, Kissimmee, FL

Powers is being held at the Osceola County Jail in Florida.
