Dialing 911 wasn't enough. Terri Hayes picked up her phone to call for help when she saw flames coming from the Dutchtown Villa Apartments; however, when she saw her neighbor in trouble, she knew she had to do something.
"She kept running back in and out of the house," she said. Hayes quickly came to her neighbor's aid to help her get her young son out of the building.
"We just had to save her little boy from being in that fire and all that smoke," she explained. She also banged on the woman's neighbors' doors to make sure everyone got out safely.
"I'm just glad everyone's all right," Hayes said, "especially that little boy."
Five people were left homeless after the fire destroyed two apartments on Peachtree Drive. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Firefighters are still trying to find out how the fire started.
