TOOMBS CO., GA (WTOC) - A murder suspect in Toombs County made his first appearance in court Thursday.
Carlito Omar Acosta faces murder charges in the death of Marie Warnock, a church secretary in Lyons. Prosecutors outlined claims that Acosta killed Warnock last week outside a restaurant in Lyons.
Police arrested him the next morning and he was officially charged Tuesday.
"What we're talking about is a horrendous crime. We intend to move forward with this case as quickly as possible," said District Attorney Hayward Altman.
It's up to Acosta's attorneys to request a bond hearing. The case will go to a grand jury in the next 60 to 90 days.
