Police investigating shooting at Jefferson and 35th streets

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at Jefferson and 35th streets.

Kelvin Smith, 43, was shot at Jefferson and 35th and then ran to Habersham and 40th streets. James Cail reportedly shot Smith during an altercation on 1800 block Jefferson Street, then called police.

According to a witness who lives near the intersection of Habersham and 40th streets, the victim was running when he collapsed in the street.That's when the witness called 911.

"I was standing outside on the porch and heard a guy start yelling that he had gotten shot. He fell on the ground, and we picked him up and called the ambulance. He had gotten shot in the leg and the bullet was still in there, so he couldn't move at the time. He said, 'It's burning, it's burning,’” said the witness, who wants to remain anonymous. 

According to police, the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.
