Savannah Fire and Emergency Services graduates new recruits

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Friday, we are welcoming 21 new firefighters to Savannah.

Savannah Fire and Emergency Services held a graduation ceremony for its 2015 recruit class after the men completed three months of rigorous training.

Each recruit also earned additional certifications including vehicle extraction and first responder.

"Having new firefighters is always a boom for us. These folks come in, they've decided they want to make the fire service their career and we're glad to have them and it's just new blood, new enthusiasm coming into the organization. It's tough work. Its physical work and these folks rose to the occasion,” said Savannah Fire and Emergency Services Chief Charles Middleton.

The new firefighters have Friday and Saturday to relax before starting their first shift Sunday.
