SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It was a special day at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist as they opened their Holy Door of Mercy.
This ceremony is a part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis. Cathedrals across the globe are joining in with Pope Francis, who opened the door in Rome earlier this week.
The Bishop of Savannah says this door will be open for one year as a symbol of the Lord's mercy.
"Through this door, we will be reminded of the Lord's mercy and hopefully be a recipient of God's mercy through prayer, and confession, adoration," said Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer.
Bishop Hartmayer encourages everyone in Savannah - whether you're catholic or not - to come through the holy door anytime this year to take part in the celebration.
