Operation Clean Sweep set up shop on Savannah's west side today. The Tremont Park community is this week's target area.
The goal is to clean up the neighborhood and provide a safe environment for residents. Volunteers and staff members of 17 city departments will spend the next few days picking up trash, clearing vacant lots and removing junk cars.
"We really need our community cleaned out we have a lot of rubbish and stuff around," said resident Mamie Rice.
"I think it's a good plan, it's a good idea, because the neighborhood accumulates a lot of trash and debris, so to have someone come in and clean up is a good idea," agreed resident Harriet Golden.
Later this week, Operation Clean Sweep will move to the Ogeecheeton community.
