SCMPD hosts 'Years of Service' ceremony

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department honored officers Thursday who have shown their commitment to Savannah and Chatham County.

The police department held their annual Years of Service ceremony, where officers who have spent a significant amount of time with the force were honored.

Police Chief Jack Lumpkin awarded officers who have served from five years with the department, all the way to four decades. The chief also said that every single officer within SCMPD is an important piece to the puzzle in making the community better.

"We all must stress to you, that we respect you, we want you to remain in our employment. We want you to continue to improve our community," said Chief Lumpkin.

In all, 53 officers were honored Thursday.
