Hazard Mitigation Plan: Preparing for disasters

Hazard Mitigation Plan: Preparing for disasters
Emergency managers held their final public meeting Thursday to talk about how vulnerable we are to a natural disaster and where our plans to limit damages might need to change.
The new plan has been worked on for more than a year now, and includes several communities from Pooler to Tybee Island.
"There are actions put into place to keep something from reoccurring or to prevent it from occurring.  So, to prevent loss of life and property," said Margaret Walton, Senior Project Manager. "Demographics change, jurisdiction grows, expands, decreases, all of that is taken into account.  New hazards are identified."
The plan is revised every five years to make sure it stays in state and federal compliance.

The next step is to take it to council to adopt the resolution.
