HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - This week WTOC told you about a little girl in New York disfigured by a fire that killed the rest of her family.
Students at Lyman Hall Elementary in Hinesville made cards to send her.
When some teachers saw this little girl's tragic story on WTOC this week, they rallied students into action to fulfil this young lady's Christmas wish.
Students at Lyman Hall Elementary put their best wishes on paper.
"Dear Safyre, I wish you a Merry Christmas. I also wish you a Happy New Year," said A'sonte Lee, student.
Safyre Terry is the 8-year-old girl badly burned in the house fire that killed her family. She said all she wanted for Christmas was cards to fill this tree. Her request went viral.
"At first, I thought I'd do this through my community group. Then I figured we could do it through Lyman Hall," said Lavonia LeConte, Lyman Hall Elementary School.
"Dear Safyre, I wish there was other stuff that I could give you. Merry Christmas," said Rocky Bosch, student.
Ms. LeCounte hopes little Safyre is as touched by this outpouring as she is.
"Just to know that these children did this for someone they don't know. Someone they'll never meet," said LeCounte.
She thinks this holiday assignment offered a lesson students couldn't find in any textbook. They hope students here also learn from this to appreciate whatever they do have.
