Fans pack theaters to be first to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The moment Star Wars fans have been waiting years for.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened in theaters across the country Thursday at 7 p.m. The movie so far has gathered overwhelmingly positive reviews, and there are still tickets available at theaters across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry.

"All the show times for IMAX are sold out. We still have regular shows which are non-IMAX that people can still come in and buy tickets, even if it islast minute, they may still be able to find a few tickets,” said Falgun Patel, Royal Cinemas owner.

Movie ticketing website Fandango says pre-sales for the film broke the record for most tickets sold in the site’s history.

"I preordered my tickets like two months ago. I'm so excited. Once I saw the trailer last year. Goosebumps all up and down my arms. I was like I can't wait!" said Christopher West, fan.
