Douglas County deputy shoots, kills man

DOUGLASVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

The man who was killed after a deputy-involved shooting at the Arbor Village Mobile Home Park in Douglasville has been identified.

A security guard called 911 at 8:16 p.m. Monday and said he had been kidnapped.

According to Sheriff Phil Miller, when Douglas County deputies arrived, they encountered three male suspects, one of which had a gun.

One of the deputies took the gun, Miller said, and placed it on the hood of a car.

One of the suspects, identified by a family member as 48 year-old Bobby Daniels, then grabbed the gun and pointed it at deputies. Another deputy shot and killed Daniels, Miller said. The gun used to kill him was an AR-15.

Miller said non-lethal force was used at some point.

CBS46 talked with the family of Daniels. They say he worked as a security guard and he would never point a weapon in the direction of a deputy. One of the family members who witnessed the shooting says they never saw Daniels pick up a weapon.

The other two men tried to run, but were taken into custody.

One of the suspects tried to hide the gun, but it was recovered with the help of a K-9 officer, according to Miller.

"The first officer deployed his stun gun at the first guy and he had on a big coat and the prongs of the gun didn't go through so it wasn't effective," said Miller. "The officer used his stun gun on the first guy and then his actual gun on the second man."

Neighbor Calvin Johnson lives in the area and heard the high-powered shots.

"I know that my wife is ready to move," said Johnson. "She's ready to get out of here."

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
