SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Low income, single female heads of households and their children are getting a helping hand this afternoon through Holiday 2015 – Connecting Community to Opportunity.
The event was presented by Assisting Working Women in Need and Grace CARES. Families that attended the free community event were able to leave with two bags of groceries.
AWWIN's mission is to help working women in need by providing job training programs, resume writing workshops and financial assistance.
"Because I was that woman. I was actually that woman. I know what it is to have your kids and not have anywhere to go, to be sleeping on the floors and sleeping in cars. Not have food, wondering how you are going to make it. Your lights are off and you have the light cord from Mary's house upstairs to your house downstairs. I know what that feels like, because that was me," said Sarahlyn Argrow, AWWIN, Inc.
WTOC's Cyreia Sandlin served as the emcee at Tuesday's event.
