PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - Christmas coming early for some deserving kids thanks to Port Wentworth's City Council, Feed the Hungry and other donors.
We were there at the Holiday Inn Express on Highway 21 as families in need were fed a Christmas dinner and kids were gifted with presents.
Council members we spoke with say it's important to give back to the community and help out the less fortunate not only this holiday season, but every day.
"We've got gifts for probably over 130 kids tonight and as long as these families are going to have some type of Christmas. I think all the donors that came through, it's amazing that these families are going to have something that they can celebrate with," said Rev. Carl Gilliard, CEO of Feed the Hungry Inc.
"It's just so wonderful to see the kids' faces. This is what it's about. It's about children and making them happy," said Debbie Johnson, Port Wentworth councilwoman.
This was the first year for the feed the hungry event and Wednesday night, it continues with a dinner at the John Delaware Community Center.
