Thunderbolt - A local restaurant takes a big hit this holiday season, the target of a thief who stole thousands of dollars of inventory.
The break-in happened early Wednesday morning at Tubby's Tank House in Thunderbolt. The restaurant owners are hopeful the thief gets caught, especially since they caught him on camera.
"Maybe sell it to another restaurant? Maybe a family restaurant? I'm not sure, that's a lot of food. It's a lot of shrimp and it's a lot of snow crab," said D.J. Newman, Live Oak Restaurant Group.
More than a hundred pounds of each, according to the restaurant, totaling around $2,000.
"The shrimp, it was over 100 pounds. That's easily a full week and a half worth of shrimp. The crab legs, I'd say probably about the same," said Newman.
In the surveillance video, you can see the thief working on the lock with a pair of bolt cutters for several minutes before successfully getting the door open. Once inside, the seafood thief finds the boxes he wants and hoists them out.
"We were out of snow crab to open the shift yesterday, and the shrimp was low. Luckily we had a truck that came in that afternoon, so wasn't as bad. But yeah it could've been very bad," said Newman.
And to make matters worse, Newman says this isn't the first time in recent history this has happened, leading him to believe the same person is responsible.
"It was only a month and a half ago when it happened. It's the same thing, took the snow crab, the walk was cut in the same manner. It had to be the same person," said Newman.
Tubby's is offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to who's responsible.
Thunderbolt Police are investigating.
