Memorial service postponed for fallen hero Staff Sgt. Chester McBride

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

The memorial service for U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Chester McBride Jr. at Statesboro High School has been postponed.

The Statesboro High School Class of 2003 Class President, Statishia Cone, put this message on Facebook Friday evening:

“SHS c/o 2003 would like to thank the community of Statesboro for the outpouring of support while planning ceremony to remember our fellow classmate, Chester J. McBride, Jr. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were asked out of respect for the family to postpone all ceremony and presentations until official Home Going arrangements were complete. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We ask that everyone keep the McBride family in your prayers during this trying time of tragedy as they mourn. Thank You.”

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Chester McBride Jr. was one of six U.S. service members killed Monday in a suicide bombing near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

Former teachers and classmates remember him for his teamwork and leadership as a star cornerback on the football field. McBride is also a graduate of Savannah State University.

The memorial service was planned to be at 5 p.m. in the Statesboro High School auditorium Saturday.
