SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Kwanzaa "kickoff" event was held Friday at the Mary Flournoy Golden Age Center on West 39th Street.
The Savannah Kwanzaa committee coming together to announce its week-long event schedule that begins Saturday with Umoja, or unity. And ending Jan. 1st with Imani, or faith.
Everyone is encouraged to head out to any event, all beginning at 6 p.m.
"Kwanzaa is the first fruit and it's the first fruit of success for all of us. It touches across all lines. It doesn't matter about your spiritual beliefs, your social or economic level. It's for all of us to now come together as one and live those principles throughout the entire year," said Jamal Toure, Savannah Kwanzaa Committee.
