SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Christopher Jones, 29, was arrested for allegedly shooting four people inside the Whitaker Street Parking Garage a few weeks ago.
But with a $15,000 bond, he was home in time for Christmas, even with several strikes already against him.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, Jones was arrested in 2004 for drugs, injuring an officer and also for having a stolen car. He was arrested again a year later for drugs and carrying a concealed weapon without a license. Fast forward 10 years later, and he's in trouble again for guns.
Monday, WTOC talked to Doctor Maxine Bryant with the new initiative to stop gun violence in the city. She says Jones was able to bond out because he's not on the list of the most violent criminals.
"The initiative is a process and not an event, so what we need to do is trust the process. So we may not see immediate long-term results, but if we trust the process the results we follow," said Dr. Bryant, End Gun Violence: Step Forward.
The shooting all started because of a bar fight. Three of the victims were involved and the other was a bystander sitting in his car. No one was seriously hurt.
