Voters in two southeast Georgia counties hit the polls yesterday.
In Wayne County, they voted on a local option sales tax for the schools, and 1,185 residents voted for the tax. But 1,220 voted against it, narrowly defeating the tax.
In Evans County, they also voted on a sales tax and a vacant county commission seat. There will be a sales tax there after 515 voted in favor of the tax, while only 90 voted against it.
In the county commission race, Phillip Richey received 154 votes, Becky Pinckard got 122 votes and Gerald Rogers garnered 45 votes. They'll hold a runoff election for Richey and Pinckard on April 5.
