Navy Veteran honored at Azalealand Nursing Home

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - A big, and very special, moment Tuesday night for a local Navy Veteran.

Ken Trout was awarded Governor Nathan Deal's 50th Year Certificate of Honor and President Obama's Proclamation.

Friends of Mr. Trout say he's a proud veteran- always representing the Navy whether it be on a hat or t-shirt - and he's always willing to share stories at the Savannah Elks Lodge 183.

"He talks about bringing dignitaries back and forth to the ship and some of the things that happened and didn't happen, you know. Most of the time, people try to remember the funny things that happened in the military and he had quite a few stories that were always very interesting to listen to," said Al Deutsch, Savannah Elks Lodge 183.

"It's important nowadays to let the Vietnam Veterans know that they're still supported, that they always have been supported, much like our veterans get the support today," said Capt. Robert Lacy, U.S. Navy.

Well Mr. Trout, all of us here at WTOC want to congratulate you on your award and thank you for your service.
