SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - In an effort to keep long lines from forming outside their office at the beginning of the new year, the Economic Opportunity Authority for Savannah Chatham County is changing their appointment set-up process.
Low-income families and individuals seeking Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program funds will now set up their appointments with the office online or over the phone. And you can start setting up an appointment with the EOA beginning Sunday at 7 p.m.
EOA Deputy Director Terry Tolbert said he believes this new format will give all who qualify an equal chance to apply.
"Annually, we can only serve, between the seniors and people who are home-bound and the regular population of low-income, about 5000 people," Tolbert said. "And then we have people who are working poor who can't get off work to come in and sing up for an appointment. So now they have the same chance and opportunity to get seen, as anybody else."
Another thing changing for applicants, once you have your appointment, you will also need to bring a copy of your heating bill and electric bill, if you are heating with gas.
The call-in number is 912.721.7910. You can also set up your appointment here.
