Underground Parking Garage Approved

There will be some major changes to Savannah's City Market in the next few years. City council members have approved a preliminary plan to tear down the City Market parking garage, add 700 plus parking spots underground, and restore historic Ellis Square above ground.

But that's not all. A private company will help pay for the work. The same company is buying the Savannah Morning News building on Bay Street and turning it into a first-class hotel.

The construction is expected to start in the next few months and should take about two years to complete.
