Seven new officers sworn in to SCMPD

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department is growing, adding seven new officers Friday.

Six men and one woman were sworn in Friday in a badge-pinning ceremony at the department's Professional Development Center. These new officers have just completed seven weeks of Patrol School, and eleven weeks of state-mandated training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

Education that is invaluable, according to the new officers.

"We have quality instructors that are teaching us new and different things every day. It's really exciting, it's a great challenge," said Officer Christopher Tillis, SCMPD.

Congratulations to officers James Hurst, Joseph Knight, Maria Lang, Erik Perez, Tyler Ranta, Anthony Ravita and Christopher Tillis.

The next group of Metro Graduates will be pinned in February.
