SCMPD hosting Citizens Police Academy program

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Leadership Savannah held its first graduate program of the year at the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department Administrative Services Complex on Edwin Street.

The program teaches attendees how the department has re-branded and changed its recruiting and retention methods to be in full force. Other topics covered include "use of force" protocols, body cameras and the Citizens' Police Academy.

"These people are years and decade's worth of Leadership Savannah graduates. We have this program three times a year unlike the regular Leadership Savannah program that is a year-long program," said Leadership Savannah Graduate Program Chair Diana Morrison.

The program was started in 1954 and is now open to anyone that applies. The application deadline is Friday, Feb. 12th.

Registration is $10 for the next 14-week course. Only checks or money-orders will be accepted. For an application, visit your nearest precinct or call Gianna Nelson at 912.651.2246 or visit the SCMPD website.

The next Citizens Police Academy class meets next month.
