One person is dead after a four-vehicle crash on I-16 East in Effingham County Tuesday night.
Effingham County Fire crews quickly arrived at the scene to put out a fire after one of the four vehicles involved burst into flames. Fire damage spread to two other vehicles involved in the wreck.
One person was pronounced dead and multiple others were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
The Effingham County Sheriff's Office received a call that a vehicle was traveling the wrong direction on I-16.
I-16 at the Old River Road exit was closed for hours throughout the night, but it has since reopened.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
