SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Several roads will be closed in downtown Savannah for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade on Monday.

Streets will close starting at 9:45 a.m., and will not reopen until 3 p.m.

The parade will kick off at 10 a.m., and it is important to note that there are changes to the route this year, due to construction. It will all start at East Broad and Liberty streets, then move to Oglethorpe, Price, and East Broughton streets. From there, the parade will move down to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, and end at Anderson Street.

Access to President Street from Bay Street via East Broad Street will remain unimpeded for the duration of the event.

The parade is the most visible event of the weekend, with more than 300 entries to be in the parade from different organizations and businesses in the city, honoring and showing thanks to Doctor King. And of course, there will be prizes for the best band, trolley bus or van, ROTC, floats and cars.

By the end of Monday night, police will post where you are not allowed to park. If your car is still there by Monday morning at 7:00, it may be towed.
If you do need to get to certain areas downtown during this time, there will be limited access.
